Frequently asked questions
What does the Dog Allergy Test check for?
It measures IgE antibodies in your dog's blood to up to 125 food and environmental allergens, including UK pollens, grasses, trees, dust mites, moulds and common food proteins. IgE is the antibody the immune system produces in an allergic reaction.
How much does a dog allergy test cost?
Each panel is £89.95 and the Bundle (both panels, 125 allergens) is £139.95. The price includes the kit, lab analysis and your digital report. Allergy testing through a vet practice usually also involves consultation and sample collection fees.
Which panel should I choose?
Choose Panel 1 (Environmental Focus, 64 allergens) if your dog's symptoms are seasonal or worse after walks, such as itchy paws, face or belly. Choose Panel 2 (Food & Dietary Focus, 61 allergens) if symptoms carry on all year or come with digestive problems. If you're not sure, the Bundle covers both.
How do I take the blood sample?
Your kit includes everything you need and step-by-step instructions. You take a small drop of blood from your dog's inner ear flap or paw pad and apply it to the blood spot card. It takes a few minutes and there's no vet visit needed.
How long do results take?
Results are emailed within 3-5 working days of your sample arriving at the lab.
What will my report show?
Your report lists every allergen tested with a score from Class 0 (no reaction detected) to Class 3 (high reaction), so you can see at a glance which allergens your dog has reacted to. It's designed to be easy to share with your vet.
How accurate is the test?
The test measures IgE antibodies in a laboratory, but no allergy test is 100% accurate. A positive result shows your dog's immune system has reacted to an allergen. It doesn't always mean that allergen is causing their symptoms, so results should always be read alongside your dog's symptoms and history.
Can this test diagnose a food allergy?
No blood test can diagnose a food allergy on its own. Use the Panel 2 food results as a guide to which foods to remove first, then confirm them with an elimination diet of at least 8 weeks followed by reintroducing the food, ideally with your vet's support. Our guide to dog food allergies explains how.
What's the difference between this and your hair sensitivity tests?
The Dog Allergy Test is a blood test that measures IgE antibodies, the immune marker involved in allergies. Our hair sensitivity tests are a non-invasive wellness screen covering a wider range of items, but they don't measure allergies and aren't a medical diagnosis.
How old does my dog need to be?
Testing is most meaningful from around 12 months old. A younger dog's immune system is still developing, and they may not have been exposed to many allergens yet.
Can my dog be tested while on medication?
Some medicines, particularly steroids and some anti-itch treatments, can affect IgE results. Check your kit instructions and speak to your vet before testing. Never stop or change a prescribed medicine without your vet's advice.
What should I do after I get my results?
Share your report with your vet. For environmental allergens, they can help you reduce exposure or discuss options such as immunotherapy. For food allergens, use the results to plan an elimination diet. If your dog's symptoms are severe, sudden or getting worse, contact your vet straight away.
Is there a guarantee?
Yes. All our tests are covered by our 100% money-back guarantee.
